Daventry Rugby Football Club
Volunteer Work
Client: Daventry RFC
I am in my second Season with Daventry RFC, since they approached my son to join their Academy. Having had the tour, listened to the Head Coach and realised their passion and ambition, I followed my son to make this Club his home. Having Coached at his former Club, Towcestrians RFC, I said I didn’t want to do that anymore but would be the Academy Manager and help with Marketing and Social Media.
Truth be told, I don’t think the Club knew the power of Marketing or Social Media. Now they do, we’ve grown the social media channels and introduced an ‘Academy’ channel too. I do everything – design, photography, retouching, posters, social media, activations, sponsorship pitch documents, member presentations, press releases, press imagery… and I love it.
I think if you can afford to volunteer some of your time to help a community, then that’s a powerful thing to do. With a rugby Club, it’s solely run by volunteers – groundsmen, coaches, bar staff, sponsorship acquisition, marketing – everything. And that is part of the appeal I think. Everyone giving up their time, experience and expertise to create something that benefits many. The friendships, the support, all are richly rewarding. My son, now 18 and playing for the Seniors, is also learning valuable life lessons that I hope he takes with him. Does it take a lot of my spare time? Yes it does, but I thoroughly enjoy it, so that’s okay with me!
